Summary from Goodreads:Set over the course of one school year in 1986, ELEANOR AND PARK is the story of two star-crossed misfits – smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you’ll remember your own first love – and just how hard it pulled you under.
I know I am late in reading this book and this is because the year setting for this book does not appeal to me. Honestly I just hate books or movies that set during the 60s,70s,80s. But I have been reading and hearing raves and good reviews about this book and I think I should just give it a try. It was engaging!! I read it in one sitting cause I just can't put the book down.
The way Rowell write about the main character which are Eleanor and Park (Duhhhh) is so good and their relationship in this book develops naturally not a love at first sight kind of thing. I am such a sucker for Korea and Korean guys. They are dreamy in the dramas I have watched and really gentleman like. Though in Korean dramas, the hero usually will love and appreciate their ladies without any doubt but Park is like 'I like her but I am a bit ashamed of her'. He loves Eleanor but at first he seems so ashamed of her fashion sense.
Eleanor's story line hit me painfully and I understand why she is so unsure of herself and her self esteem is so low that it touches the ground. With a mother who is afraid of getting out of the bad situation and a father who just do not care and also the creepy step father who just makes her uncomfortable, she is a mess. But her character and self esteem develop in the course of the book.
The story line is quite interesting though some of the parts I find in a bit dry but overall it was a good read and I did enjoy reading the book.
