I finally finished it!! This book has been sitting on my shelves for about 2 years. I bought the whole box set during Boxing Day when I was studying in the UK. I decided to start reading this series because I joined the 2014 TBR Pile Challenge and because I want to minimise my TBR books before all the new releases coming out this year.

Plot: There are some parts that I find fast-paced but there are some that are dragging along.

Characters: I love Jon,Arya, and Tyrion because they are tough and very independent. I realised that I have a tendency to love characters that fend for themselves. These 3 characters are the unique characters in the book because they are the outcast. Their characters are outside of the norm. Arya is a girl with a strong boy character, Jon is a bastard and that makes him unloved by Catelyn and Tyrion is an imp which is actually a shame for his lord father. But they tough it out even though they are different.

Language: At first it is not easy for me to get used to the language due to the vulgerness of words used in the book but as the I read, it becomes natural to read.

But all in all I enjoyed reading the book and blames myself for not pick it up earlier. I will be reading the second book in February as a part of the TBR Pile Challenge. I am thinking of finishing the box set this year.

  1. I'm all for strong characters. A kick-ass character would be a bonus. I've heard a lot of good reviews about this book. It's on my TBB priority list (to be bought xD). There's also a TV series with the same name. I want to watch it but I feel bad for not reading the books first. I'm going to hunt the boxset. How much did it cost you?

Whoa. You went abroad for studies? Cool! Which part of UK? What's a Boxing Day?

    1. I studied at Canterbury,Kent. Southern part of UK. So,Boxing Day is the day after Christmas 26/12. It is a day where a lot of shops have crazy sales!! I miss Boxing Day the most. The boxset costs me about £20 which is equivalent to RM100. It has 5 books of the series.

The books are soooo cheap in the UK and I sometimes bought 2 3 books a day. Through Amazon and local bookstores. On Amazon, new books costs me sometimes 1cents and the postage £2.80 so all in all about £2.81 a book equivalent to around RM10. I shipped back one whole wooden crate full of books I bought there that is why my TBR list is sooooooo long!

Ohh and they have charity shops sell second hand books at the price of 50 cents each. Though the books may seem used but 50 cents I would gladly buy it. Most of my books I bought from charity shops, local bookstores (Waterstones,WH Smith,The Works),Amazon and also car boot sales. I always found treasure everytime I went to a carboot sale.

Hope that you do no find me bragging but it is an experience to share. Hee.

    2. Wahhh bestnyaaaaa! No worries, I don't find you bragging at all. I love to hear/read/watch stories on other countries. I couldn't afford to go there by myself. So, I'm okay with people experience and book visit, hehe.

Books in Malaysia are sooo damn expensive! RM 10 for a new book on Amazon? Mimpi la nak dapat macam tu kat sini. Haha.
But the postage seems so expensive o.o. Is that the shipping price to Malaysia?

And Kindle! Bestnyaaa! I've always wanted one, but since Amazon doesn't open the market to Malaysia, and I don't like the hassle and insecurity of using the third party sellers, I'll skip that for now. I hope that one day some one will accidentally write my address on the Kindle package and sent it off to my door. Haha berangan is my middle name ;P

    3. That is the shipping price to all parts in the UK. I have a kindle cuma nak beli buku susah sikit kalau guna kindle in Malaysia. Huuu. What book are you reading now?

    4. You can work around that problem. I've read somewhere on the internet. You can buy/receive books from Amazon in Malaysia. I've tried before (sebab curious xD), But I don't have a Kindle. And I end up with a Kindle on PC and Phone. Application pun boleh la, hehe.

Currently reading The Midnight Library: End Game by Nick Shadows. Middle grade book, so far okay lah.
